The Junior HUM badge is an opportunity for students in year 9 and 10 to cover the Humanities curriculum, in areas they pick, to extend themselves.
You will have 12 months from the date you start (but ending at the end of year 10) to complete a series of tasks covering a range of Humanities topics. These will require you to use your initiative and test your knowledge and skills learned in class. The tasks will need to be worked on outside of class time, although there may be time within class if your teacher allows or if you are a fast-finisher. The HUM Badge is a perfect opportunity for you to challenge yourself and earn a sweet-as badge in the process.
This year we will be introducing the Junior Humanities Platinum Badge. This is currently in the works but students will gain this badge by completing an NCEA style assessment in their chosen Humanities topic (Geography, Social Studies, History, Classics, Tourism, Media Studies). As a department we believe this will help you prepare for the way you will work at the senior levels as well as give you a taster into subjects available as you progress through school.
You will receive a sheet which has various tasks on it. Each task is worth points (the harder the task, the more points it is worth). You can select whatever tasks you want but you must earn a minimum of 25 points to receive the Junior HUM Badge. On the task sheet there are 30 tasks available to choose from, with over 60 points up for grabs.
Below is an example of the type of questions you will be asked
Each task will be signed off by your teacher before you can move onto the next one.
