At Mairehau we work to provide extension opportunities for our students, we take pride in the courses we offer and the effort our students go to to excel. The HUM (Humanities) Badge has been created as an opportunity to celebrate students who wish to extend their learning within the subject. It covers all areas of the Social Sciences curriculum and allows students to select topics of interest to them within that. Students are encouraged to present their learning in multiple ways to develop their skills in technology
The scheme is opt-in. We recommend it for any student wishing to challenge themselves.
The idea of the badge tasks is that students will be able to self-manage the workload themselves. They have 12 months from the start date to complete it and all the work provided is within the curriculum level of year 9-10 students. There is a range of tasks with varying difficulty and on a variation of topics; perfect for a range of ability and interests in our students.
Any support and interest you provide with the work being done on the badge tasks is highly valuable, bearing in mind the above- they are capable of this work themselves and there is plenty of time for them to get through it! Encourage them, ask them about the work they're doing, provide tips if needed and discuss it with them. Your enthusiasm in their learning is more valuable than providing them answers.
Students will be expected to work on these tasks in their own time but if they work efficiently in class (and at the teacher's discretion) there may time within the class as well.
We are a BYOD school and having a device to work on is crucial for these tasks. If you need info regarding BYOD, please refer to our school site.
Nope! Totally free.
