Junior Humanities (formally known as Social Studies) is for year 9s and 10s. The curriculum covers human interaction with each other and the world around us, both past, present, and future. We delve into topics such as Aotearoa history, globalisation and sustainability, war, culture, human rights, forms of government, consumer law, tourism, natural disasters and geography, business and economics.
Available Level 1, Level 2 & Level 3. Each year the course follows a thematic approach, using different contexts to support the development of key analytical skills and interpretation.
Geography looks at people, places and the environment and how they affect each other. It gives people a sense of place and where you are in the world. Available Level 1, Level 2 & Level 3.
This course is available NCEA Level 2 & 3. We offer a hybrid course incorporating Media Studies and Tourism papers or a single focus of Tourism. The content revolves around learning the business of Tourism in Aotearoa, and planning and creating a short film. It is a combination of of Achievement standards and Unit standards.
Media Studies is available at Level 2 & Level 3 (returning 2026). It focuses on understanding influence of media in our lives as well as the practical skills of making a quality media product.
