We are learning to use PEEPC to write clear paragraphs.
Brainstorm rules for writing paragraphs, how were you taught at primary school? Were you taught using an acronym at primary school?
Bullet point them on A3 paper as a group or in books.
In the humanitities we use PEEPC.
Here you need to make a CLAIM. It needs to be clear and because you would have already done your research, you state it with confidence!
Yes, I think sometimes some people are at risk because of cyclones.
Cyclones are proving dangerous for the people of New Zealand, especially in the North Island.
At this stage you need to explain your reasoning behind your claim. This must support your topic sentence and cannot go off on a tangent.
Give some reliable evidence. In Humanities we do not usually rely on your experience, it should be from research that you have done. Phrases start with "According to...." or "XXXX says that..."
At this point in the paragraph you need to persuade us why your evidence proves the claim you are making. BUT when we write in Humanities we try to avoid being too emotional. Stick to the facts and hit the point home.
This one is more difficult and not always necessary at year 9 level. You need to connect this all back to your main point.
