It is important to know how Google works (even in just a basic way) so that we can use it correctly.
Matt Cutts explains how searching with Google actually works.
Basically, Google does a lot of work for you... so how come so many people don't get good information for their schoolwork when searching Google?
they don't search the right thing (spell things wrong, search a wrong word etc. etc.)
they don't try search different phrases
they usually choose the first thing that comes up on Google.
If you want to ask a question of Google you can just do what most people do and type that question straight in. Google will even help you by completing your question.
Google then sends out its "spiders" to find information from millions and millions of pages and brings you back something like this:
Google searched millions of pages... How does it know what is the best and most useful information?
To be honest it doesn't but it does try by doing these things:
looks at keywords in our question
tries to match our keywords to the website address
tries to match our keywords to any words in titles on that website
tries to decide if the website is trustworthy
A keyword is a word of importance that is linked to information that you need to find. Without the right keywords you will not find the right answers.
A keyword is the key to finding your answers!
Instead you can use key words e.g. this person is worried because their 3 year old cow has blisters on its tongue.
You may not speak like that to a person, but Google doesn't need full sentences, it just needs to know what words are the most important.
