SEXY Paragraph

In the Humanities we use the SEXY paragraph format. Students ask why quite often and that is because it is easy to remember. One key thing to remember when writing as Historians, we have to be careful with our opinion. We use evidence to back up points and we are quite factual with the style of writing. This is not creative writing!

Write a paragraph together

Write a SEXY paragraph together as a class on any topic. 

Statement: Have students suggest a main point.

Explanation: Discuss and agree on details that explain the statement.

eXample: Find a relevant example together.

whY: Explain why the example supports the statement.

Just a reminder, we do not usually write these headings when we write paragraphs for reports etc, at this stage it is just to help you break it into chunks!
