To understand how to interpret and create different types of graphs , including bar, line, and pie charts.
We use graphs in most Humanities subjects to analyse data. The point of a graph is to visually organise information, it makes it easier to spot patterns and trends. Below are three important types of grpahs.
Line graphs or charts show how values change over time. The line goes up for positive changes and down for negative ones, helping to see trends and predict the future.
A bar graph or chart shows numbers for different groups using bars. The length of each bar represents the value. Bar charts can be vertical (column charts) or horizontal, which work well when there are many bars or long labels. The colums of a bar graph DO NOT TOUCH.
Pie graphs or charts show values as slices of a circle. While it’s hard to see exact sizes, pie charts are great for showing how parts compare to the whole.
Graphs are no use to us if we cannot read them. To do this you need to:
Read the title
Read the labels
Check what the different lines/bars/segments are representing. What is the pattern?
