Maps will follow a set of rules to ensure that when people are looking at them, they can tell what they are looking at!
Most maps will have a scale on them to show the distance between points. This can be used for navigation or for calculating real-world distances between locations. By using the scale, you can measure how far apart places are, plan travel routes, and estimate the time needed to reach a destination.
On Google Earth/Maps and most similar apps, the default is for the top of the image to be North, that means that you know the way to draw your compass for this map already.
