Skills for reading non-fiction
Non-fiction is text that is written to be factual/based on true events. When reading through it all, it is important to break down the information in front of us. To do this there are a few skills we will need to cover.
Identifying language features and how they help us understand the text. In this case we are focusing on headings and keywords.
When you break it into chunks it isn't so big and overwhelming!
Non-Fiction DecodingNon-fiction Decoding Question SheetIf students are not ready for the above task: This is the same information split into chunks to give to different groups around the room. There is the option to print on A3 and have groups work on the questions together too if need be.
