Purpose: To foster a comprehensive understanding of the intricate connections between personal identity, cultural heritage, and the societal constructs of belonging, within the context of local history, cultural narratives, national identity, governance, and the transformative impact of migration. Through critical exploration, students will develop the knowledge and empathy needed to navigate complex global issues and contribute positively to their communities and the world.

I Know: Māori as tangata whenua were excluded from these cultural ideals, which they experienced as colonising and assimilating.
I Know: Systems of government and justice differ in the way they operate and in how they affect people’s lives.

I Can: apply conceptual understandings across contexts and case studies in order to develop generalisations.
