This is the legend of Rata and the tree.
Rata is known for building a waka (canoe) and then waking up in the morning to find the manu (birds) and ngangaru ( insects) had turned his waka back into a rakau (tree).

Your mission:
Your mission:
Like Rata, you need to build a waka, but also like Rata, you have a time limit, you need to build it quickly so that the manu and ngangaru do not get a chance to change it again.
You will have:
A group of 3-4
30 sheets of newspaper
1 roll of sticky tape on a dispenser
30 ice cream sticks
Scissors (for construction only)
Each team will get up to 5 points each for:
1. Being able to seat one of your ropu (group) inside it without it collapsing
2. Be shaped like a waka
3. Waka has strong sides and a base
